The Glasgow Embedded CoC also doesn't make any binary nor categorical moves. The categories listed are clearly examples, stated with the resigned sigh of "you're going to make me list some specifics aren't you? Fine, here's some things, you get the gist.” — this is good! Problems aren't always covered by a specific list, and it leaves enforcement much more qualitative than quantitative or categorical. Not "if (bad) yeet()", but “hey, you're being a jerk, can you tone it down?”
For the scale of project this is absolutely the right way to go.

She sat on the trailer steps and stared in reverence at the field of dandelions. Surrounded by flowers, something in her heart began to tug painfully up toward the blue sky. She plucked one, blew on it gently. Up flew the fluff, lighter than air, and her soul soared with it. Later, she would wolf down her breakfast, go back to the exhausted, deadening ratrace. But a part of her would remain here, in the sun and soil and Spring breeze, soaring with those seeds. #MastoPrompt #MicroPrompt #WSS366

Gary was also homed by the charity I volunteer at so I remember him from kennels!

Soooo....I'm doing a thing...🤭😏
As a lot of you know, Tooters shut down recently and the way it was handled in the end is regrettable.
However, I felt for longest time while it was up, that it was consistently one of the BEST run instances on Fedi with how they protected their users from some of the insanity that happens here.
That being said, with Tooters being gone, it leaves a bit of a hole in my Fedi heart and I know a lot of others as well.
So, I'm creating a new, very limited for now, politically-light (as little politics as possible locally), AI friendly (AI art welcome), Sharkey instance for some folks within my circle that I've grown to consider my friends.
The Social Zone is meant to be a place to escape the very political society we currently all live in and just be social with one another about our hobbies, interests, and day to day lives.
I'm still working out all the details but when I launch it, it's going to be invite only because I'm new to something like this and I want to get it right. Especially because those I will invite are people that are close to me and I don't want to disappoint them.
Depending on how things go for the next few months, including if I can even get this thing started correctly, I MIGHT be open to allowing more members in, down the line.
But, this is just getting started. I registered the domain yesterday and just started researching Sharkey today and how hard it would be to spin something up. Then, of course, there's configuration settings and administration with Sharkey that I have to familiarize myself with.
All in all, I'm very nervous, but excited that I decided to take this next step in my Fedi adventure and hope to eventually "give back" to the entire community, the same positive energy that you've all given me over the past wonderful year of being on this amazing platform.
Please do not ask for invites. I will not be handing them out anytime soon. I've already asked about 5 of you along with some IRL folks and I feel I would like some time to get this right for them first.
Thanks for reading. I hope you understand why I'm choosing to do this and hope you're as excited as me to see where things can go and understand why I feel it's important to have these types of "politically-light" spaces so people can escape such topics from time to time.
Keep on keeping on, Fedi. The future is bright and I'm ready to learn along with you. More info about TheSocial.Zone coming soon!
Your friend,
B.A.

Random HB thought : episode 8 of season 1 is great because it's a very cathartic experience after the emotional rollercoaster that was episode 7. It's a nice way to settle back down with nice music and animation and fun colors.
Other random HB thought : fans who watched the series in "real-time" must have had it very rough though, because they had to go from OZZIE's straight to The Circus with no emotional break in-between the two episodes. Oof.

"the biggest 6-month fall in NHS waiting lists in over 10 years" say the Tories. This is plain untrue, and the graphs are the clearest demonstration of how voting does actually matter. This stuff is killing us

A graph showing that the trend has been massively upwards since the Tories came to power, and a slightly bigger temporary fall in waiting lists in may 2020.
A graph showing waiting lists go up when the Tories are in power, and down when labour are.

I guess the advantage of the big city is you can go to the gym anytime day or night right next door to the hotel! 😂 I do like the view.

A gold gym sign sits beside an entrance.
A few out the hotel window shows a night scene. There is a dark roof of the building. With a tall multi story building in the background. Lit up and its windows. On each side is the street. With cars going down . All of the objects are slightly blurred that are moving.

"Grief is the ultimate interruption of the normalization of mass death and mass murder because in grief, we acknowledge the value of life as we do in no other scenario. We grieve because we love life, because we love those we have lost. We love the living. We know the value of humanity. That is what our grief means to us. And so we retake our humanity, we reclaim public space, and we reclaim this day from a genocidal administration with our grief and with our love, and with our refusal to allow those who are dying to go unacknowledged. We hold this space for them. We say their names. We honor them because they are part of us and we are part of them. And so long as they are dying, there is no justice for any of us. And so there shall be no peace for those who lead us.
I know that many of us are grieving a great deal in these times, and that our grief can at times feel all-consuming. Grief can cause us to shut down, retreat, or turn inward, but I want to remind us that there is power in grief. Because grief refuses the normalization of violence and loss. Our grief is a rejection of dehumanization. By grieving, we are refusing to devalue the lives of those we have lost, and we are refusing to become less human ourselves. We are refusing to sacrifice the parts of ourselves that are soft and permeable enough to facilitate human connection and mutual recognition. In our grief, there is hope for humanity, because in our grief, love and decency persist in the face of atrocity.
I urge you to make space for your grief and to nurture its power. As Rasha Abdulhadi teaches us, “If our hearts break, let them break outward into action."

$125K stolen in 10 minutes
From Kim Komando's newsletter —
"Feb. 16 was a typical Friday night. Barry and I decided to stay home, grill chicken and make a salad for dinner. At about 6:45 p.m., we heard some loud rumbling overhead.
We walked onto the back patio, and two police helicopters were shining lights all over our property. A recording echoed, “Police. You are under arrest. Stay right there and I won’t shoot you.”
As I looked across the fence, a swarm of armed Phoenix SWAT team members with a few dogs were circling our property. One of the guys said, “Yeah, there’s a jammer right here.” He picked it up. I leaned over the patio and asked, “What’s going on?”
The police told me to go inside
When I asked again, a SWAT member said, “Ma’am, it’s a South American gang targeting homes to steal from. The jammer says you might have been next. Do we have permission to enter your property?” I said, “Yes!” and then he asked something like, “If we find anyone, will you pursue charges so we can arrest them?” I replied, “Of course!”
I opened the driveway gates to our property and the guest house while Barry tossed the police keys to open the security gates. People asked me if I was scared. How could I be? There was a team of really professional police officers protecting me from who knows what.
Turns out, when the gang saw we were home, they likely diverted their attention to the house next door. A house four doors down from us wasn’t so lucky.
The homeowner left at 5 p.m. to have dinner and got a notification his security cameras were offline at 5:05 p.m. He thought the internet went down. Nope, the gang broke in and took $25,000 in cash and valuables worth $100,000. They were in and out in under 10 minutes.
How are they getting away with this?
The gang places cellular and Wi‑Fi jammers around the homes they’re targeting. This way, security cameras and phones are useless. A Phoenix police officer told me the gang probably noticed nothing was down in our house.
We have our cameras and internet hardwired. Even when they tried to jam our signals, the red lights on the security cameras still showed they were recording everything.
But how frightening is that? Your phone doesn’t work. Your cameras aren’t recording anything. On the upside, the gang doesn’t carry guns. This way, if they get caught, they’ll spend about six months in jail before being extradited to Chile.
Nothing is random
The gang scopes out homes beforehand. They drive the neighborhood and look up houses on real estate sites to get an idea of where the primary bedroom is located. They look for dogs, too.
It’s not just in Phoenix, by the way. This is happening all over the country. A friend was robbed by this gang, and he lives in a guarded, gated community in California. Kudos to the Phoenix Police Department — they arrested three members of the gang who were in my neighborhood that night.
So, what can you do?
☑️ Wireless cameras go kaput with no signal. Try a wired camera for a backup.
☑️ A cam with SD card storage will still record if there’s no Wi‑Fi.
☑️ Put up motion-activated lights; they make it harder for anyone to sneak around.
☑️ A femtocell (think of it as a mini cell tower) could be enough to keep your connection if thieves use jammers — T‑Mobile or Verizon.
☑️ Have an Amazon Echo? Away mode lets you control your lights so it looks like someone’s home.
☑️ Make it look like someone’s watching TV at your house when you’re not there with a Television Simulator.
☑️ A University of North Carolina survey of over 400 incarcerated burglars found security system signs deter thieves.
☑️ Check Zillow, Realtor.com and Redfin for photos of your house. The more crooks know about the layout, the better for them. Ask to have them removed.
☑️ Blur your house from Google Maps and Apple Maps while you’re at it.

Hey friends!
The hike with my friends was a blast! It was pretty warm today (yet another heat record) but I decided to ascend in the shade and go down again on the sun side, which turned out to be a good decision.
Luckily I also didn't felt very sore from yesterday's cycling! The one photo shows what I call "the window". Not sure what you think, but I love this spot.
Afterwards we had some coffee, cookies and some nice talk. Just a great day!

This captivating image showcases a quaint small building nestled in a lush grassy meadow, surrounded by a variety of trees, including notable maples that punctuate the landscape with their presence. The building, which features a distinctive red roof, adds a charming touch to the rural setting. In the background, majestic mountains rise, providing a dramatic backdrop under a vast, clear blue sky. This image captures a breathtaking view from the vantage point of a rocky cliff, overlooking a vast valley that stretches into the distance. The scene is enveloped in the tranquility of the great outdoors, with the wilderness sprawling as far as the eye can see. It won't compile while also running any more. Not enough memory. The Mastodon Bloat is real, and in part at least cause by the Node bloat.
I think maybe the actual env-var is working now and we're back to running on un-edited glitch?
Either that or the compilation failed in such a way it thinks it worked but really is an old cache. 🤷
Nothing about managing a Mastodon server makes me want to learn Ruby. Nothing. It mostly makes me want to run away from node too.

DANGER: STAY BACK
FISHING AND CLIMBING
The cliffs along this coast have caused many deaths.
Cliff edges crumble under your feet; strong winds take your balance; rocks are covered with slippery algae: and large, unpredictable waves —"sneakers"—will take you off ledges and out to sea. Those who fall could strike their heads before landing in the ocean. Few survive.
HOW TO SURVIVE THESE CLIFFS
• Stay back from the edge.
• Do not go into a cliff area that has slippery rocks.
• Stay out of cliff areas that suspend you over the ocean.
• When fishing lines snag, do not go into the surf zone to free the lines.
BEACHCOMBERS BEWARE
The surf at this beach has caused the death of many people who were simply walking the shoreline.
Without warning, large, unpredictable waves called "sneakers" place a large mass of water far up the shore. Sneakers knock down both children and adults, who struggle to regain footing in eroding sand. The wave backwash then takes them out to sea. Few survive.
HOW TO SURVIVE THIS BEACH
• Stay back and watch that wave.
• Look at the lines of driftwood and foam on the beach. Allow no one to go between the highest line and the ocean.
• Do not allow children to play tag with the waves.
• Remember that adults are as vulnerable as children to the hidden power of these waves.
ANYONE CAUGHT BY THIS SURF
REQUIRES IMMEDIATE PROFESSIONAL RESCUE.
DO NOT ENTER THE WATER YOURSELF.
NO LIFEGUARD SERVICE PROVIDED.

The need to build housing bumps up against NIMBYism and growth concerns in my community. We're a rural area on the edge of Toronto so there's tremendous pressure to start paving farmland (HWY 413 will cut through the southern portion of Caledon) and increase the population. I worry about sprawl, because that's the majority of approved projects, and not creating walkable, livable towns with GO connections.

Pretty sure the problem was that Firefish had a cached version of the remote profile from before the alias was set.
